Catalogue Number: 12N053
Reference: NF/PMA 99987
Description: Everything here dates from conservatory years, even though Ciurlionis was 27 when he wrote the quartet in Leipzig. The overriding feel here is Dvorák, with Lithuanian-style themes in the slow movement. The other works date from 1898 and 1902, during the composer's time at the Warsaw Conservatory where the most individual is the G major fugue, with a joie de vivre like the best of Bach. Third time this quartet has recorded this program (last available on defunct Russian Disc in the mid 90s). Vilnius String Quartet.
