Description: You may think of Farwell as one of the Indianist composers but only around ten percent of his compositions were in this vein so it's fitting that only 23 percent of this disc consists of his 1905 set of music from an Omaha ceremony. Vale (1930), suggested by the mythology of William Blake, mixes Romaticism and Impressionism while the selection of Polytonal Studies (actually bitonal, really), which were written between 1940 and the year of his death, show him in experimental mode. 16 pages of scholarly but readable notes are a big bonus. Lisa Cheryl Thomas (piano).
