Description: The concentration here is on early pieces from 1917-19 which are miniatures in nature and which already show the beginnings of Tcherepnin's mature interest in exotic scales and complex or insistent rhythms. But the 1926 Message - at over nine minutes, one of the longest single movements in any of his piano music - is an intense experience; as the notes put it "This is rhythm for the sake of rhythm".
