Description: This reissue of recordings made at unspecified times and locations is claimed to be all digital - the traycard says 2013 but that would involve Boris Tchaikovsky coming back from the dead and the vigorous, not to say often manic, piano part of his 1957 sonata, whose nervous chromaticism, jumpy rhythms, dense melodic lines and edgy dissonance suggest Shostakovich, would seem to be beyond the capabilities of a rotting zombie. Beyond that, it also offers a more lyrically inclined, though hardly pastoral, work by Chebotarev from 1986 (which may be a first recording), a brief, high energy scherzo by Shaporin, a short suite of Prokofiev ballet music arranged for cello by a mystery man and Schnittke's well-served earlier sonata. Worth the price! Marina Tarasova (cello), Irina Kandinsky (piano), Boris Tchaikovsky (piano).
