Catalogue Number: 12Q004
Description: This fourth and, probably, final volume brings 38 minutes of First Recordings: the main ones being a relatively early overture to incidental music for a stage play The Jew of Prague (1871) which is already recognizably Fibich in sound, and the 18 minutes of ballet music from the composer's opera Hedy (1894-95 and based on Byron's "Don Juan"). The latter consists of five consecutive dances with prologue and epilogue not worlds away from Tchaikovsky or Delibes but with a definite Bohemian flavor in a couple of them. The remaining premieres are tableaux vivants - short occasional pieces for important civic events not intended to outlive their original purpose but, again, recognizable and attractive additions to the Fibich discography.
