BARTOLOMEO CAMPAGNOLI (1751-1827): 6 String Quartets.
Catalogue Number: 12Q024
Label: Brilliant Classics
Description: Since Campagnoli spent much of his career as first violinist and conductor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, he had ample opportunity to learn the Germanic style of composition from the inside out. Although his flute quartets (02K043) were quite comparable with Mozart's and Haydn's, these three movement quartets, all but one lasting only in the 8-10 minute range and with no slow movement, are plainly in the salon or Divertimento category rather than being comparable in any way to the above composers' own string quartets. Ensemble Symposium.
