Description: All these sonatas were published by the Swiss Hans Georg Nägeli and Liste's, dedicated to Beethoven, was hand carried to him in 1811 by Schnyder von Wartensee. So the programming actually makes sense! Although substantially younger than Beethoven and Liste, S von W's 31-minute four-movement sonata (no date given) is not stylistically more advanced than the late Classical period except for having a waltz in place of a minuet. Liste's is a fairly gargantuan piece for that period: four movements lasting 55 minutes - heavenly-length, although suggestions of Schubert are faint, mostly in the lovely lyricism of the slow movement. 2 CDs for the price of 1. Sona Shaboyan (piano).
