Description: Music from Austrian Jewish composers forced to leave their homes after the Anschluss in 1938. Gál's relaxed, serene and pastoral sonata from 1941 belies his internment as an "enemy alien" in Britain; Weigl (1940) and Zeisl (1950) are more dramatic in tone and intense in expression (even if only in his first movement for Weigl). Zeisl's consciously foregrounds Jewish melodies while Weigl stays in his usual generalized late Romanticism. All are very attractive and easy to enjoy. Julia Rebekka Adler (viola), Axel Gremmelspacher (piano).
