Description: Given how many recordings there are of Clarke's viola sonata it's astonishing that this is only the second of the equally atmospheric and masterly piano trio of 1921, elements of Debussy, Ravel and Bartók suffused with a personal warmth and lyricism. Viëtor was born Italian, married a Dutch businessman and lived most of her adult life in the U.S. Her 1951 trio is only a ten-minute-long single movement but it and the little Canzonetta have such immediately memorable motivic elements that one wants to hear more and can only wonder what else she wrote (and how much). Storioni Trio.
