Description: The "Great War" in the title refers, of course, to World War I and all of the composers here wrote these songs under varying influences of it either shortly before or during the war (Needless to say, Magnard's had to be shortly before!). A mere glance at the names above will show you that there is quite a bit of rare repertoire here. The notes are very brief but include both the composer and the poet (even when it's Ben Jonson). 2 CDs for the price of 1. French, Russian, German-English texts. Robin Tritschler (tenor), Malcolm Martineau (piano).
