Description: The bandurria is a small lute dating from the 16th century which remains popular in South America; Brouwer evokes the rustic rhythms of Cuban folk style in the 1978 Música Incidental Campsina and Cuban salon music in the early (1957) Micropiezas (the last of which is Frère Jacques!). A Chilean songwriter murdered by the Pinochet regime is memorialized in the Variaciones of 2007, the sonata of the same year suggests the immense vistas of Brazil and the 2011 bandurria sonata includes Afro-Cuban rhythms, minimalism and varieties of rhythmic and harmonic contrasts. Pedro Chamorro (bandurria), Pedro Mateo González (guitar).
