Description: Timpani unearths yet another forgotten French composer who, not being based in Paris, was generally ignored by the French musical establishment. Thirion was from Lorraine and spent almost his entire life in Nancy where he taught at the conservatory until his retirement in 1949. But, shattered by the loss of his entire manuscript œuvre during the German invasion of 1914 and the death of his wife in 1920, he stopped composing from that point on. These two works were published in 1908 and 1910 and belong to the world of Ropartz, Florent Schmitt and Jean Huré with Ravel and Debussy in the distance.
