Description: Premiered in Rome in 1724, this is an opera which delights in spectacular set pieces but which also contains 21 or 22 numbers that are taken from Vivaldi’s previous works. In 2002 (07E020) we offered a recording based on a reconstruction of the original manuscript by conductor Estevan Velardi; this one uses a new edition by Vivaldi opera scholar Reinhard Strohm. 3 CDs.
