Description: For some time now, Dutton has been licensing and remastering for SACD quadrophonic recordings made by CBS back in the 1970s. Until now, there has been no unusual repertoire but that streak comes to an end with 50 minutes of ballet music from this Mexican composer. Soles is a half-hour long ballet “after a Nahua tradition” from 1925 and is in the composer’s nationalistic style (you may think of Villa-Lobos now and again) while the 21-minute Pirámide (1968) is of sterner stuff tonally speaking but always rhythmically gripping. Also included on the SACD stereo-only layer is a 17-minute bonus track of Copland rehearsing Appalachian Spring.
