Description: The Bax dates from 1903 and comes with plenty of Dvorákian echoes and its second movement was orchestrated as the tone poem Cathleen—ni-Houlihan. Bantock’s 1933 quartet consists of literal translations of Chinese songs to the string medium while Gardiner (1905) follows the four-movements-in-one model of the Cobbett competition days - a mere ten minutes in this piece. Tippett Quartet.
