Description: These works display the aspect of Cooman's output closest to neo-romanticism, with more sumptuous orchestral textures and richness of harmony than has been apparent in works with other preoccupations on previous releases. The tonal elements frequently encountered as a component of the composer's style are especially apparent in sections of the two concerti; the piano concerto is indeed a fairly conventionally structured three-movement specimen, with a lively and virtuosic solo part. In What and Beyond share a mystical atmosphere, developing a sense of inner conflict between warmth of texture and a certain astringency or economy of harmony. Here and elsewhere there are distinct echoes of late Copland and Wuorinen, though Cooman unmistakably has an original voice. Various Slovak artists.
